Russians cut expenses on trips abroad by $3 million in Q4 of 2014 — Central Bank
Overall, the number of trips abroad taken by Russians January-September 2014 totaled 36.8 million, which is 14% less than for same period 2013
MOSCOW, January 19. /TASS/ Russians have cut their expenses on trips abroad in the 4th quarter by $3.1 million, down to $8.5 billion, due to the ruble devaluation, the Central Bank reported on Monday.
During the course of November-December, the national currency depreciated by 41% against the dollar and by 35% against the euro. On Black Tuesday, December 16, amidst the panic on the currency market, the dollar soared above 80 rubles, while the euro crossed the 100 ruble mark.
Overall in 2014, Russians have reduced their spending on travel abroad by a little more than $3.2 million to $50.3 billion.
RosTurism, Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism, has yet to submit data on Russian tourist flow for 2014. For the first 9 months of last year, according to the national statistics service, travel has gone down by 2%, comparing to last year, to 14.6 million trips. Overall, the number of trips abroad taken by Russians January-September 2014 totaled 36.8 million, which is 14% less than for same period 2013.
