Russia signs contract with Ukraine on electric power transit to Crimea — Crimean leader
“The contract will guarantee uninterrupted electric power supply to Crimea from Ukraine,” the republic’s head Sergey Aksyonov said
SIMFEROPOL, December 23. /TASS/. Russia signed a contract with Ukraine on electric power transit to Crimea, the republic’s head Sergey Aksyonov said on Tuesday.
“The contract will guarantee uninterrupted electric power supply to Crimea from Ukraine,” Aksyonov said.
He expressed hope that the contract terms would be fulfilled in full. “Now no power cuts are being planned. Payments to Ukraine are made in full,” Aksyonov said.
The contract was signed on December 22. At present, the peninsula depends on Ukraine at peak times.
The federal special purpose program intends to provide at least $1.2 billion to developing Crimea’s energy sector. The funding will be used to remove transmission constraints, create its own generating capacities and make electricity supply reliable and uninterrupted.
