The agreement provides for annual pumping of up to six tons of oil to Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline

MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. Russia and Slovakia signed a framework agreement on Friday for a new oil supply deal, the Russian Energy Ministry told TASS.

The document was signed by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Slovak Economy Minister Pavol Pavlis.

The agreement was strategic in nature and aimed to strengthen cooperation between Russia and Slovakia in oil sphere, the ministry quoted Novak as saying, adding that the two ministers also discussed gas supplies from Russia to Slovakia, and cooperation in electric power industry.

A draft intergovernmental agreement to supply Russia’s oil to Slovakia was approved by the Russian government on October 30.

The new deal, which will replace the previous agreement expiring on December 31, provides for annual pumping of up to six million tonnes of oil to Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline. The same amount of Russian oil will run in transit through Slovakia to other European countries.

The deal will be in force from January 2015 until the end of 2029, and will be automatically prolonged every five years.

Novak said earlier he expected the deal to be signed before the end of the year. He did not specify however which of Russian oil companies would supply oil to that country.
