Russian watchdog withdraws 200 tons of food from circulation since embargo introduction
At the Russian border, the watchdog stopped over 500 tons of chicken from the United States and some 328 tons of meat and meat products from European countries subject to Russia’s countersanctions
MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) has withdrawn from circulation over 200 metric tons of illegally imported goods, the consumer rights watchdog’s head Anna Popova said Wednesday.
“Since the presidential decree took effect in August, 13,000 enterprises have been checked for compliance and more than 200 tons of food has been withdrawn from circulation,” Popova told TASS.
She said Rospotrebnadzor still discovers embargoed food in Russian shops. “Not long ago, the Moscow Region authorities revealed chain retail sales of Estonian strawberry, cheeses from the Netherlands and Spanish jamon,” the official said, adding that the seized batches were small — “not more than 4-5 kilograms of each type of product.”
At the Russian border, the watchdog stopped over 500 tons of chicken from the United States and some 328 tons of meat and meat products from European countries subject to Russia’s countersanctions, Popova added. She also said attempts to import American carbonated drinks and sugar candies (some 50 tons) and 100 tons of Polish fruits were blocked.
