MOSCOW, November 19. /TASS/. Gazprom Transgaz Belarus, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom, is considering plans of constructing a second leg of the Yamal-Europe pipeline supplying Russian gas to European consumers, the company’s CEO Vladimir Mayorov said on Wednesday.

“Now the construction of the second leg of Yamal-Europe is being discussed,” Mayorov said in an interview with the Gazprom magazine. “It is no secret that the Yamal-Europe trunk pipeline currently accounts for around 70% of transit through the territory of Belarus.”

Last year, the pipeline carried some 34.7 billion cubic meters of gas. “At the moment, the Yamal-Europe is working at its maximum technical capacity level,” Mayorov said.

He said the transit capacity directly depends on the European consumers’ demand for gas, and boosting transit is linked to the development of the pipeline system located on the territory of Belarus.

Gazprom Transgaz Belarus ensures uninterrupted gas supply to consumers in Belarus and is a reliable partner in the international system of gas transportation, according to Gazprom website.

The Russian natural gas is transported via the pipelines on the territory of Belarus to the Kaliningrad region, Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland. The Belarusian gas pipeline system, operated by Gazprom Transgaz Belarus, includes 7,870 kilometers of pipelines.

The Yamal-Europe gas pipeline runs across four countries: Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany. The Belarusian pipeline section, owned by Gazprom, is 575 kilometers (360 miles) long.
