Russia taps new markets to make up for pork shortage — minister

Pork shortage following food embargo was eliminated largely through opening new markets and new countries, says Agriculture Minister Nikolay Fyodorov

 

MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. Russia no longer experiences a pork shortage that emerged after the country imposed a food embargo on imports from the United States and the European Union in response to western sanctions, Agriculture Minister Nikolay Fyodorov said on Monday.

“There is no pork shortage. It was eliminated largely through opening new markets and new countries and the issuance of permissions by Rosselkhoznadzor (Russian agricultural watchdog) to them,” the agriculture minister said.

“This problem has been removed at the level of contracts,” he said.
