China to build research center at Russia’s Skolkovo research hub

The future technology park will incorporate a research center, laboratories and offices of Chinese companies that are interested in investment cooperation and plan to come to Skolkovo

BEIJING, November 10. /TASS/. China’s Tsinghua Science Park, or TusPark, world’s biggest technology park, plans to take part in the construction of phase two of a technology park at Russia’s Skolkovo research hub outside Moscow, President of the Skolkovo Fund Viktor Vekselberg told TASS on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing on Monday.

“A meeting we had here yielded an agreement to this effect. The future technology park will incorporate a research center, laboratories and offices of Chinese companies that are interested in investment cooperation and plan to come to Skolkovo,” he said.

}As part of cooperation with the Chinese science park, Skolkovo plans to open its office at TusPark, Vekselberg said, adding that the office would be tasked to promote Russian innovation developments on the Chinese market. “Today, the global market is vying for brains, knowledge and innovation generating skills. That is why an alliance between Russia and China in this field looks very promising: we can develop and the Chinese will make use of our developments thus augmenting a synergetic effect,” he noted.

Skolkovo research hub and China’s investment fund Cybernaut plan to establish close cooperation to develop joint investment projects.

“China’s private businesses are not keeping aloof from innovation processes,” Viktor Vekselberg told journalists. “We had a meeting at a big fund, Cybernaut, whose founders have unique experience in creating innovation products sold on the Chinese market. Today, their top priorities are robotronics, commercial use of the outer space, superconductivity technologies.”

“They have invited us to set up a system of efficient cooperation on the development of a range of joint investment projects, up to and including a joint fund. They also said they were interested in opening an office at the Skolkovo research hub,” Vekselberg said. “I would like to underscore the high interest of the Chinese side to Russia’s innovation sector. It proves that the Chinese recognize and respect Russian academic science, despite the considerable influence of European and American companies.
