MOSCOW, September 10. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian service of global IT giant Google is investigating the reported leak of some five million passwords among its Gmail account users, a company official said on Wednesday.

The leak was reported by CNews website a day after the leak of Mail.ru passwords and two days after Yandex accounts were leaked, Cnews said, numbering the total among the three operators at 10 million mail accounts.

“Our specialists are figuring out how that could have happened,” Russian Google press service said, advising clients to use a more complicated password and connecting their account to a cell phone number. Google enciphers the information in its data center, the company added.

Russian social network "Vkontakte" spokesman Georgy Lobushkin said its administrators would block users of Gmail.

“Passwords and logins are not personal data. We don't possess any reason for verification,” an official at the Federal Service for Supervision of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Mass Communications said.
