MOSCOW, September 09. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Internet companies Yandex and Mail.Ru Group said Tuesday that users of their e-mail boxes, which have recently leaked out, have no problems when restoring access to the service.

“Yandex’ users have no massive problems with access to their e-mail boxes and other our services,” a company spokesperson said.

Newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported earlier that some users, whose passwords got into public access, had problems when restoring their accounts. The problems emerge when the account is not tied to a mobile telephone number.

The e-mail services ask users to fill in a form with the indication of passport data only if users forget an answer to a secret question, which is posed during the registration of the account. The form should be also filled in if the mentioned mobile telephone number became obsolete or was lost, Yandex’ spokesperson said.

“It’s a standard procedure; users follow it when they forget their passwords, or when their accounts are compromised by perpetrators,” the spokesperson said.

“The telephone number is the most secure, but not the only way to restore a password. It could be restored via a secret question, as well as other additional e-mail address. If the user forgets all the data, they can address the technical service,” Mail.Ru Group’s spokesperson said.

Yandex and Mail.Ru Group have faced a leakage of a total of 6 million passwords of their users’ e-mail boxes. The companies said that most of the compromised data was either obsolete or created by robots.
