Oettinger confirms meeting with Ukraine’s energy ministers on September 8
Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Monday that Russia and Ukraine are ready to hold trilateral gas talks with the European Commission on Saturday
BRUSSELS, September 02. /ITAR-TASS/. EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger has confirmed Tuesday he will meet with Ukraine’s Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan in Baku on September 8.
The date and the place of next trilateral gas talks, with participation of Russia, Ukraine and the EU, which will be acceptable for all the three sides will be defined after the meeting, Oettinger said. These talks could be held in the middle of September, he said.
Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Monday that Russia and Ukraine are ready to hold trilateral gas talks with the European Commission on Saturday, and are waiting for a commission’s decision on the date.
A commission source said earlier Tuesday that experts of Russia and the commission will hold a technical meeting on gas issues in Brussels on Thursday.
In late August, Ukraine agreed to resume trilateral talks suspended in June when the country disagreed with Russia on repayment of a $5.3 billion debt and gas prices. On June 16, Russia’s Gazprom switched Ukraine off gas supplies.
