MOSCOW, August 29. /ITAR-TASS/. Peru’s fisheries cannot increase hake supplies to Russia due to a temporary fishing ban, Renato Bustamante, head of Hayduk company’s food manufacturing department, told industry magazine UndercurentNews Friday.

“Our stocks are insufficient to increase supplies to Russia because of the ban. So, Russian importers will have to wait,” Bustamante said.

On Friday, Peru’s government temporarily banned hake fishing on the country’s north coast to preserve hake’s population. Fish prices grew to US $1,570 per tonne from $1,500 on growing Russian demand due to the imports ban.

On August 7, Russia banned imports of beef, pork, poultry, fish, cheese, dairy products, fruit and vegetables from Australia, Canada, Norway, the US and the EU for one year as an answer to Western sanctions. Since then, it has been in talks with other countries on increasing supplies to replace the banned ones.
