Ukraine completes works to receive reverse gas from Slovakia

KIEV, August 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukrainian pipeline operator Ukrtransgaz has completed works to be able to receive reverse gas supplies from Slovakia at a compressor station in the vicinity of Uzhgorod, state oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy said in a statement Wednesday.

Ukrtransgaz and Slovakian gas transportation system operator Eustream have also finally agreed on technical aspects of reverse gas supplies which are to start on September 1. Eurstream will deliver 27 million cubic meters of gas per day, or 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The agreement is concluded until the end of 2019.

Russia’s Gazprom discontinued gas supplies to Ukraine in June and Kiev switched to reverse gas supplies or swap deals with European countries. Hungary started reverse gas supplies to Ukraine in May and Poland in April.

Ukraine pumped 15.065 billion cubic meters of gas in its underground storages by August 8, while it has to have around 18.500 billion cubic meters to ensure flawless Russian gas transit to the EU in the winter, Gazprom said earlier.
