Russia’s countermeasures to affect Germany’s dairy export
However now import restrictions concern the whole of Europe where agricultural products account for a large share of European export to Russia
BERLIN, August 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s countermeasures restricting agricultural import from Europe will impact Germany’s dairy export, Romuald Schaber, President of the Federal Association of German Dairy Farmers, said on Thursday.
He expects “demand to decline and the price of German dairy products to begin to fall” which will create problems with the marketing of these products.
Another representative of the Association recalled that more than a year ago Russia had banned the import of dairy products from several German regions but this had no consequences due to greater demand for milk in China.
However now import restrictions concern the whole of Europe where agricultural products account for a large share of European export to Russia, the official told DPA.
Earlier in the day, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a resolution banning the import of beef, pork, cheese, fowl, milk, and fish from the European Union, the United States, Australia, Canada, and Norway for one year.
The ban came in response to the Western sanctions imposed against Russia by the US., the EU, Canada, and Japan.
