Subscribers of MTS Ukraina mobile operator in Sevastopol disconnected
The cellular communication problems have been caused by the connection of cell phone towers that had belonged to MTS Ukraina, to the fiber-optic cable stretched from Krasnodar Krai
SEVASTOPOL, August 06. /ITAR-TASS/. All subscribers of the MTS Ukraina mobile operator in Sevastopol were disconnected from the network on the night to Wednesday, the city communications department told ITAR-TASS.
Disruptions have occurred in the services provided by another Ukrainian operator - Kievstar, and the Life operator works normally.
The cellular communication problems have been caused by the connection of cell phone towers that had belonged to MTS Ukraina, to the fiber-optic cable stretched from Krasnodar Krai. “We are switching them to K-Telecom’s own switchboard system. Russian and Ukrainian providers will have communication disruption for a period from three to seven hours,” the department head Vadim Dvoryanenko said.
Russian mobile communications have been stable in Sevastopol. The local residents had been warned of the communication problems. On Tuesday, almost all Russian SIM cards, mainly of MTS operator, were sold. In the evening of August 5, the sale of K-Telecom SIM cards was launched started in the former central office of MTS Ukraina, and during the night 20,000 subscriber’s contracts of this operator were brought to the office. K-Telecom is the legal successor of MTS Ukraina. Its personnel will be transferred to the new company. “We would like to maintain Ukrainian roaming, but this is doubtful,” Dvoryanenko said.
