Gazprom CEO’s exclusive tablet to have restricted access to company’s confidential data

Under the company’s policies, processing of data constituting a trade secret can be done only on desktop computers

MOSCOW, July 29. /ITAR-TASS/. The tablet PC exclusively designed for Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller for 114 million rubles (about $3 million) will have restricted access to confidential data of Gazprom due to the holding’s corporate policies. This says the comment issued by Gazprom OJSC press service regarding the reports that the tablet’s development has been completed.

Technical specifications for the tablet’s development stipulate that it should have access to process specific data constituting a trade secret, as well as other confidential data of Gazprom that is located in the corporate data storage of the company.

“At present, Gazprom doesn’t use mobile communication networks when processing confidential data. The processing of information constituting a trade secret, as well as of other confidential data may be done only on desktop computers,” Gazprom told ITAR-TASS. “This is set by corporate policies, which are not planned to be changed so far. However, Gazprom has implemented technical solutions that allow providing a secure mobile remote connection to specific information resources in case if needed,” the company’s press service explained.

Earlier, sources on the IT market told ITAR-TASS that the development of Miller’s tablet for 114 million rubles was already completed, and the company was preparing to present the device late in August.

In summer 2013, Gazprom announced a tender for the development of a tablet for the company’s CEO Alexei Miller. Under the technical requirements, the device should have been designed for iOS platform.

The contractor expected to get a hardware and software suite designed for making an extended analysis of the key performance indicators of the company. The device should be able to operate in 3G, GPRS and Wi-Fi networks. The maximum time for service restoral in case of hardware malfunction should not exceed 4 hours.
