MOSCOW, July 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s veterinary inspection service Rosselkhoznadzor may ban fruit and vegetable imports from Ukraine in the event that its specialists reveal re-exported products from Moldova, Rosselkhoznadzor head Sergey Dankvert said on Friday

“If Ukraine starts transiting Moldovan goods, it will also be banned,” Dankvert said.

Rosselkhoznadzor fears Ukrainian businessmen start re-exporting fruit and vegetables from Moldova to Russia after prices for these products have fallen sharply in the republic.

Dankvert said Russian officials had other concerns about safety of fruit and vegetables imported from Ukraine, which had not been made public so far.

On July 18, Russia’s agricultural watchdog imposed a temporary ban on fresh fruit imports from Moldova on grounds of violations of Russia’s quality and consumer rights protection legislation. Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development has drafted a government resolution on abolition of zero export taxes on a number of Moldovan imports, including wine, meat, vegetables, fruit and grain.
