Russia’s ALROSA diamond output falls 7% in January-June
MOSCOW, July 21. /ITAR-TASS/. The output of Russian uncut diamond mining giant ALROSA decreased 7% on the year to 15.9 million carats in January-June mainly due to repairs at the Aikhalsky and Udachinsky mines, the company said in a statement Monday.
Revenue rose 13% on the year to $2.7 billion in the period, while diamond sales totaled 21.1 million carats.
ALROSA sold 8.4 million carats of diamonds in April-June, including 6.1 million carats of gem-quality diamonds with an average price of $200 per carat. The price for technical diamonds was $11 per carat on average.
In 2014, ALROSA expects diamond output almost flat at 36.0 million carats compared to 36.9 million carats last year. Diamond sales are expected at 38 million carats, including about 2 million carats from stores.
In 2013, ALROSA sold 38 million carats of diamonds, including 26.7 million carats of gem-quality at an average price of $176 per carat and 11.3 million carats of industrial diamonds at an average price of $9 per carat.
