China hopes for broader cooperation with BRICS countries — deputy FM
BEIJING, July 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the sixth summit of the BRICS developing-nation assembly of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa from July 15 to 16, which should significantly strengthen Chinese co-operation with the organisation’s member states, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Li Baodong told a briefing on Monday.
“This visit demonstrates China’s special attention to interaction with BRICS countries,” he said. “It aims to boost co-operation between China and these states and to develop partnerships within the BRICS assembly.”
“BRICS members have established a multilevel mechanism of broad co-operation in various spheres,” he said. “Political confidence between them is steadily growing. Economic, financial and foreign trade co-operation becomes increasingly business-like and close.”
The foreign minister expressed hope that further progress would be made at the summit in Brazil to create a mechanism of closer coordination between BRICS countries.
After the summit, Xi Jinping will also attend a meeting between Chinese and Latin American and Caribbean nations' leaders in Brazil. From July 17 to 23, he will pay state visits to Argentina, Venezuela and Cuba.
