Latvia announces emergency regime over African swine fever

Twelve wild boars and three domestic pigs have contracted African swine fever in Latvia
RIGA, July 03./ITAR-TASS/. The Latvian government on Thursday adopted a resolution on emergency regime in Latgale region that borders both on Russia and Belarus over an African swine fever outbreak.
The disease has affected an area of about 5,000 square kilometers where the emergency regime will last until October 1. Latvia’s Food and Veterinary Service has been allowed to take all the necessary measure to fight the virus.
Twelve wild boars and three domestic pigs have contracted African swine fever in Latvia. The vet service has checked 1,600 farmsteads and peasant households located in the risk zone.
