The imports of pork, beef, lamb meat and horse meat from Moldova will be allowed only in the form of meat carcasses, half-carcasses and bones in meat quarters

MOSCOW, July 3. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia will restrict meat imports from Moldova from July 5 over violations of sanitary standards, the country’s veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said on its website on Wednesday.

The imports of pork, beef, lamb meat and horse meat from Moldova will be allowed only in the form of meat carcasses, half-carcasses and bones in meat quarters, the watchdog said in a statement.

Rosselkhoznadzor has taken this decision due to the gross violation of the Customs Union veterinary and sanitary standards and food certification requirements by the Moldovan National Food Safety Agency, the statement said.

Russian Veterinary Service assistant Alexei Alekseyenko said on June 26 that Rosselkhoznadzor was considering banning cheap beef imports from EU countries, such as sub-products and trimming (a mixture of meat pieces from various carcass parts).

European entrepreneurs numerously tried to bring pork products into Russia under the guise of sub-products and beef scraps, despite Russia’s ban on pork imports over the African swine fever outbreak in Europe, Rosselkhoznadzor said.
