VIENNA, June 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Hungary has requested Russian monopoly gas exporter Gazprom for more gas to be pumped into the country’s underground storages, Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak told journalists on Monday following a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart.
The gas holding was considering the issue, he added, expressing confidence the answer would be positive. Pumping into European gas storage facilities in the summer period could resolve the problem of Ukraine’s possible tapping into transit supplies, Novak said.
Ukraine had not yet taken transit gas but the issue was under control Novak said.
“The situation now is that Ukraine can survive without Russian gas, on gas produced and earlier stored volumes,” Novak said.
