Rosatom plans to expand cooperation with Brazil, Argentina

MOSCOW, June 23. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) is interested in the expansion of interaction with Brazil and Argentina, the head of the corporation, Sergei Kiriyenko, told reporters on Monday.

“We are interested in the expansion of our cooperation with Argentina and Brazil. We have good contacts. This is an unusual market for us,” Kiriyenko sad, reaffirming that traditionally companies from France, Germany and the US are operating there.

In the mean time, “we consider the Latin American continent as one of the top priorities for developing our business,” the Rosatom head said, adding, “With this in mind, we are going to boost our contacts with partners in Brazil and Argentina.” He also expressed hope that the atomic cooperation issue will be in the program of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to South America.

Kiriyenko also drew reporters’ attention to the importance of closer contacts with other BRICS partners (along with Brazil) — with China, India and others.

“Our present-day task is to map put the most priority steps with due account the change of India’s government. We have a big program of strategic partnership. You know, we initialed an agreement with South Africa late in 2013,” Kiriyenko said, stressing, “On the sidelines of bilateral talks in the BRICS format, the atomic energy matter may be high on the agenda of the most promising cooperation.”
