Russia government to decide to protect domestic market in case of association deal

SOCHI, June 23. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian government, but not the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) will take a decision to protect Russian market if Ukraine signs an association deal with the European Union, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov told reporters after a meeting of the EEC Council on Monday.

In his words, Russia will receive this right after the EEC Council considers specific materials.

“According to a legislative base that exists in the Common Economic Space now after the issue had been considered at the EEC Council today Russia receives a right to take a decision (on measures to protect the market) at national level. Now we have an opportunity to take measures of customs tariff regulation at the level of Russian government’s decision now we should not take this decision for three countries (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan),” Shuvalov said.
