Russia supplying gas to Moldova in full volume
CHISINAU, June 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia is supplying gas to Moldova in full volume, the republican Moldovagaz gas distributor said in a statement in connection with Russia’s decision of June 16 to impose an advanced payment for gas for Ukraine, which is a transit country for delivery of the product to Moldova.
“The country’s gas transportation and distribution systems are operating as usual. Moldovan consumers receive natural gas uninterruptedly,” the company’s representatives said.
The trunk gas pipeline runs through southern territories of Transdniestria and Moldova to guarantee gas supplies to Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. Moldovan Deputy Economic Minister Tudor Copaci sees no risks for the halt of natural gas deliveries from Russia to the republic.
Meanwhile, the neighbouring Transdniestrian Republic made a decision to develop its own alternative energy resources. The leader of the unrecognised republic, Yevgeny Shevchuk, signed related documents, while reaffirming that Transdniestria faced the same situation back in 2009, when Ukraine had suspended Russia’s gas export though the pipeline. Back then the conflict was settled shortly, which made it possible to escape serious consequences.
