BRUSSELS, June 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Three-party gas talks in Brussels have ended without an agreement, the negotiations will continue, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Wednesday after talks between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union.

Russia will introduce prepayment mode for natural gas supplies to Ukraine if Kiev fails to pay debt by 09:00 Moscow time (05:00 GMT) on June 16, the minister added.

The volumes of April-May gas supplies to Ukraine should be paid in full to the tune of $2.3 billion, Alexander Novak said.

He explained that the $500 million tranche should be received by June 16, and the remaining part of Ukraine’s debt to the tune of $1.8 billion by June 26.

Novak said the $2.3 billion debt repayment is part of a package agreement.

 

Gas discount possible

Russia has also proposed restoring $100 discount on gas supplies, which was in effect from April 2010 to April 2014.

Ukraine’s gas contract with Russia for 2009-2019 is still in effect, and Russia suggests that the price for gas for Ukraine be $384.86 per 1,000 cubic meters, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said after three-party talks between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union in Brussels on Wednesday.

“Russia is ready to guarantee the permanent effect of the gas discount for Ukraine of $100 per 1,000 cu m for a year as an additional document to the current contract,” Novak said.

Russia ready to continue talks

Meanwhile, the date of the next round of gas talks within the Russia-Ukraine-EU format has not been specified yet, according to the Russian minister. "Russia is ready to meet at any moment," Novak added.

Russia is ready for a new meeting with Ukraine over the gas dispute before June 16 if appropriate proposals are put forth, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said at a news conference after talks with Ukrainian and EU officials in Brussels on Wednesday, June 11.

“We are ready if appropriate proposals are made,” he said.

Novak also stressed that Russia would be waiting until Monday for Ukraine to pay $1.451 billion for the gas supplied in November and December 2013 and $500 million for April and May.
