Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin says Eastern Siberia had no unified gas supply system but has resources

NOVOBUREYSKY SETTLEMENT (Amur Region), May 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian oil giant Rosneft is ready to construct main pipelines in Eastern Siberia, the company’s CEO Igor Sechin told journalists.

“Rosneft is even ready to construct infrastructure for gas that may be purchased,” he said.

Eastern Siberia had no unified gas supply system but has resources, he added. “If Gazprom constructs the Power of Siberia pipeline and opens access to it, this will simplify gas transportation for all. But different options are possible,” said Sechin.

The company was developing a number of new fields in Eastern Siberia and hoped to have the opportunity to transport and monetize gas from the fields with hefty resources of gas, about 16-20 billion cubic meters a year.

Rosneft’s fields in Eastern Siberia and Far East could yield up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas in the future.

He described Gazprom’s 30-year contract with China signed on Wednesday as “a strategic decision” aimed at developing Russia’s Far East and East Siberia. Sechin expressed confidence Gazprom will manage to provide efficient export supplies, “while the country will get new fields, jobs and infrastructure”.

Asked about how much gas Rosneft was ready to supply to the export pipeline, Sechin said “it did not matter which pipeline, domestic market is also a premium market”.

Supplies under Gazprom’s $400 billion agreement will reach 38 billion cubic meters a year.
