Vimpelcom telecom counts subscriber losses in Ukraine

The Ukrainian subscriber database shed 760,000 users, slipping to 25.56 million

MOSCOW, May 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Major player Vimplecom, global telecommunications group owning Ukraine operator Kievstar, lost three percent of its Ukrainian subscribers year-on-year in the first quarter of 2014, said a company report.

The Ukrainian subscriber database shed 760,000 users, slipping to 25.56 million.

Vimpelcom subscriber losses in Ukraine proved more serious than in Russia, where the group has more than double the client list. It lost around 1.2% of Russian subscribers over the year, losing 700,000 in the first quarter to a 55 million user base.

Sales in Ukraine and Russia in the first quarter reached $248.7 million and $1.89 billion respectively.

Telecommunications operator Altimo, investment arm of the Alfa Group Consortium, owns 47.9% of Vimpelcom shares. The rest is divided between Norway’s Telenor (43%) and other minority holders (9.2%).

Vimpelcom’s Russian subsidiary stands among the top three global operators. The holding offers telecommunications services under brands Beeline, Kievstar, Djuice, Wind, Infostrada, Mobilink, Leo, Banglalink, Telecel and Djezzy.
