MOSCOW, May 08. /ITAR-TASS/. Finland’s Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen is sceptical about Europe’s ability to do without Russian gas supplies, as well as the feasibility of such a step.
“Russia needs revenues from selling gas to Europe, and Europe needs Russian gas. This interdependence can be positive. Giving up the import of Russian gas altogether makes no sense and is impossible economically,” he said.
Katainen added, though, that in the medium term - over five years to come - Europe should draft a program for enhancing its energy independence.
