Ukraine's authorities plan to raise the price of gas for consumers by 50%

KIEV, April 01. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine is sending a delegation to Moscow this week in order to discuss the gas issue with the chiefs of Russia’s largest natural gas extracting company Gazprom, Ukraine’s parliamentary-appointed minister of fuel and energy, Yuri Prodan, told the media on Tuesday.

“Our delegation is going to visit Moscow for talks with Gazprom,” he said.

Prodan added that in the second quarter of 2014 Ukraine would import Russian gas bearing in mind the so-called ‘Black Sea Fleet discount’, established at $100 for a hundred cubic meters under the Kharkov agreements in 2010.

Russia’s Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said on Tuesday that Ukraine’s national oil and gas company Naftogaz owed $1.711 billion for the imported Russian gas.

“Ukraine will pay out the debt, depending on the compensation for the currency rates and import price discrepancies we will get”, Prodan commented on the issue.

The price of gas transportation inside Ukraine is subsidised at the moment. The country’s authorities plan to raise the price of gas for consumers by 50%.
