SOFIA, December 13. /ITAR-TASS/. New comments have been coming in from Bulgaria on the decisions of the European Commission to hold additional talks with Russia about the construction and use of the South Stream pipeline. European officials believe the international bilateral deals between Russia and the participating countries clash with the European law and should be revised. But Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin is sure there are no fundamental obstacles in the way of the project, according to the local paper Standart.

“We should find an appropriate formula for the project to be realized as soon as possible,” he said. Vigenin believes the European Commission has no intent to put obstacles in the project’s way.

Bulgaria would not call into question the critical remarks, but would negotiate further action with the European Commission. It would not violate the European law, though the problem was common for all countries the South Stream pipeline would cross and the project was important for the EU as a whole, he added.

Vigenin opposed the assumption the problem resulted from the current tense situation in Ukraine, which is keen to preserve its status quo on the issues of Russian gas supplies to Europe.

He said he was well aware of Ukraine’s discontent, but added the interests of a group of the EU countries and the EU as a whole were here at stake and they “cannot be sacrificed for a subjective stance of a single neighboring country”.
