EAEU looking at signing free trade agreement with several more countries — senior diplomat
According to Alexander Pankin, by now, two rounds of negotiations on a free trade agreement have been held with India and "the countries’ experts are working ahead of the thitd round"
MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) may sign free trade agreements with several more countries, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin told TASS.
The year 2025, in his words, was "rich in trade agreements" and such documents were signed with the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and Mongolia.
"Our negotiating efforts are currently focused on new tracks," Pankin noted. "Of course, there is a group of countries with which we are actively working to deepen trade relations."
According to the senior Russian diplomat, by now, two rounds of negotiations on a free trade agreement have been held with India and "the countries’ experts are working ahead of the thitd round."
"The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in May 2026 decided to launch consultations on the liberalization of trade with Tunisia," he noted. "The first round is expected soon. The expediency of signing free trade agreements with Pakistan and Jordan is being looked at."
He emphasized that reaching mutually acceptable agreements on trade deals "often takes a long time due to the need for a thorough analysis of the economic feasibility of the steps being taken."
"Moreover, decisions of this kind in the EAEU are made by consensus and with due regard for the interests of all member states of the union," he explained. "In this regard, predicting when such painstaking work will be completed is a thankless task, and it is impossible to give a precise answer to this question.".
