MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. Russia has set an all-time historical record for its Pacific herring catch, with the total haul since the beginning of the year exceeding 612,000 metric tons, the Fish Union told TASS.

"The Pacific herring fishery has reached an all-time record, with the catch exceeding 612,000 tons. According to the Federal Agency for Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo) tracking data, the Pacific herring catch in the Far East has already surpassed 612,000 tons in the first 10 months of 2026. The previous annual record, which stood for 57 years, has been officially broken, and a new historical maximum will be established by the end of the year," the statement said.

The current figure has surpassed the previous historic high of 606,000 tons set in 1969. Furthermore, the volume has already surged 2.7-fold above the annual average over the entire 90-year history of record-keeping (228,000 tons).

Between 1935 and 2025, the annual Pacific herring catch in the Far East fluctuated from a low of 4,000 tons in 1935 to the 1969 peak of 606,000 tons, but 2026 has definitively rewritten this history, the Union emphasized.
