MOSCOW, October 29. /TASS/. Ethiopia has invited Russian universities to collaborate on artificial intelligence (AI), including the development of technologies tailored to the national languages of African countries, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced at the plenary session of the third Russia-Africa Summit.

"We have already established a university in Addis Ababa focused on the use of artificial intelligence and information. We invite Russian universities to join us in this endeavor," he said.

According to the Prime Minister, developing homegrown technologies is crucial for ensuring the technological sovereignty of African states.

"We believe it is essential to create tools in the languages of our own peoples," Abiy Ahmed emphasized, noting that African nations should independently define principles for information use and technology deployment.

The Prime Minister also suggested that Russian companies leverage special economic zones in Africa to access the continent's markets.

"Russian companies can participate in the activities within Africa’s special economic zones to bring their products to the continent," he stated, also advocating for simplified cross-border payments and expanded economic ties.

The head of the Ethiopian government underscored the need to transition from agreements to tangible results, adding that Ethiopia highly values Russia’s commitment to the partnership and intends to fulfill its obligations.

The Prime Minister also identified food security as one of Ethiopia’s top development priorities, noting the country's interest in using modern agricultural technologies to boost production efficiency and reduce food losses.
