Russia emerging as leading supplier of fertilizers to Africa with 20% share — UralChem
This means that Moscow acts as a guarantor of the stability of the continent’s agri-food markets, the company said
MOSCOW, October 27. /TASS/. Russia is becoming a leading supplier of fertilizers to Africa, having increased the share of its supplies to the continent to 18-20% of total imports, up from 4% in 2018, UralChem Group told TASS.
"Russia is steadily emerging as a leading supplier of fertilizers to Africa. For instance, the share of Russian supplies in African imports has grown from 4% in 2018 to 18-20% in 2025," the company stated ahead of the Russia-Africa forum.
This means that Moscow acts as a guarantor of the stability of the continent’s agri-food markets, UralChem said. "This is a highly responsible role, and we recognize that part of our function is to help maintain the stability of this market," the company added.
Uralchem ranks among the top five fertilizer suppliers to the African continent, having increased its sales from 100,000 tons in 2018 to around 1 million tons by 2025. Moreover, the company supplied about 135,000 tons of fertilizers to African nations free of charge between 2022 and 2024, while also covering the transportation costs associated with these humanitarian shipments.
