Ukrainian drone activity near Zaporozhye NPP, Energodar persists despite ceasefire
Director of Communications Evgenia Yashina says the situation at the plant remains tense but under control
MELITOPOL, October 18. /TASS/. The situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and in the city of Energodar remains tense, with Ukrainian drone activity persisting despite a local ceasefire around the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant, Director of Communications of the ZNPP, Evgenia Yashina, told TASS.
"Regarding drone activity, I must unfortunately state that the situation around the plant and its satellite city, Energodar, remains tense. Unmanned aerial vehicle activity persists. As for the situation at the plant itself, it remains tense but under control. Personnel continue to monitor all safety parameters around the clock," Yashina said.
On October 15, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev announced an IAEA-mediated local ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine near the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant. The pause is required to repair equipment that transmits electricity to the Zaporozhye NPP from the "Ferrosplavnaya-1" high-voltage line, which runs from the Ukrainian-controlled right bank of the Dnieper River. Parts of this equipment were damaged by Ukrainian shelling. Its restoration will secure the nuclear plant's power supply and reduce the risk of future blackouts.
