Rosatom’s global leadership in nuclear technology is universally recognized — CEO
Alexey Likhachev highlighted that, at present, only Russia is implementing fourth-generation projects
MOSCOW, October 12. /TASS/. Rosatom’s leadership in the global nuclear technology market is universally acknowledged and recognized, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the state corporation, told reporters following a government strategic session.
"Any strategic session serves as an initial review of results. Today, we clearly understand - and this was reported - the extent of our leadership in nuclear technologies. It is universally recognized and has been achieved thanks to decades of work by Soviet and Russian scientists, developers, and engineers. We are currently leaders both in the international market, in terms of the number of power units under construction abroad, and in developments being implemented within the Russian Federation itself," Likhachev said.
He highlighted the edge Russian specialists have in the most advanced nuclear technologies.
"Only Russia is implementing fourth-generation projects - energy systems with a closed fuel cycle that utilize both fast and thermal reactors. This configuration enables the closure of the nuclear fuel cycle and the repeated recycling of fissile materials between different reactor types," he added.
