HAIKOU /China/, October 12. /TASS/. The southern Chinese province of Hainan welcomed over 4.75 million tourists during the National Day holiday, also known as "Golden Week," Hainan Ribao reported.

According to the newspaper, the Hainan Province Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports announced that the region experienced a 13.1% year-over-year increase in tourist traffic on October 1-7. Official estimates show that during the seven-day period, vacationers spent more than 6.87 billion yuan (about one billion dollars - TASS) on the island, which is a 14.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Hainan Ribao pointed out that 32,900 foreign tourists visited Hainan during the Golden Week. This figure is 18.4% higher than last year and 88.6% higher than during the same period in 2024.

Despite the increase in local market activity, the number of daily complaints received from tourists in the province decreased by 22.7% year-over-year during the reporting period. According to the authorities, this indicates an improvement in service quality and public safety, as well as the effectiveness of measures to eliminate various risks and prevent emergencies. Data from local law enforcement agencies show that no major accidents occurred in Hainan over the weekend.

In addition to beach vacations, which have traditionally been very popular, tourists showed great interest in cultural and entertainment events, including performances by artistic groups, visits to local villages, and educational programs for children and their parents. Vacationers also actively visited Hainan’s museums, which welcomed more than 236,000 visitors during the week. In addition, there was a boom in trips to sites associated with historical events from the revolutionary years.

Meanwhile, local tour operators have noted an increase in tourists traveling to Hainan and exploring destinations in the province’s central region, not only to coastal areas. As a result, hotel occupancy rates were high not only in the resort city of Sanya and the provincial capital of Haikou, but also in smaller towns. Traffic on the island's orbital highway increased by 10.5% compared to the same period in 2025, surpassing 4.39 million people.
