Russia eyeing participation in developing railways, river ports in Afghanistan
Special attention was paid to the development of the Trans-Afghan Railway project
MOSCOW, October 7. /TASS/. Russian companies may participate in the development of Afghanistan's railway and river port infrastructure, including the port of Hairatan, the Russian Ministry of Transport said.
Russian Deputy Minister of Transport Dmitry Zverev held a meeting with Fateh Abdul Karim, Director General of the Afghanistan Railway Authority. "The parties reviewed the prospects for the participation of Russian companies in the development of Afghanistan's railway and river port infrastructure, including the port of Hairatan. Special attention was paid to the development of the Trans-Afghan Railway project," the Ministry said.
The opportunities to expand freight transportation by using the existing infrastructure of the eastern route of the International North-South Transport Corridor were also discussed.
The parties discussed further the issues of establishing the legal framework for transit operations and interaction between Afghanistan and the Coordinating Transport Conference of the CIS countries. The Russian side expressed its readiness to further joint deliberation of promising areas of cooperation.
