Rosatom transformed global nuclear power landscape over past 15 years — CEO
Alexey Likhachev added that since the 2011 Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, "unthinkable global changes" have taken place
MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Rosatom transformed the landscape of nuclear energy in the last 15 years , General Director of the state corporation Alexey Likhachev told the Bioprom·2026 forum.
"Thanks to our scientific foundation and the fundamental role of the Kurchatov Institute as our scientific leader, we have managed to completely transform the landscape of nuclear energy over the past 15 years," he said.
He said that earlier this year, at the Forum of Future Technologies, which was devoted to the bioeconomy, the president set the task of ensuring sovereignty in a number of areas, and in those where there is potential, to take leading positions.
"That, in fact, is our task – to achieve these leading positions," Likhachev said.
He added that since the 2011 Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, "unthinkable global changes" have taken place.
"A number of leading players have either sharply reduced their activity or left the market altogether, while Rosatom and some countries, on the contrary, have taken the lead and become trendsetters in this field thanks to a closed·loop economy, a closed fuel cycle, and not only today’s leading technologies but also the fourth·generation technologies of the future," said the head of Russia’s nuclear industry.
