PRAGUE, September 22. /TASS/. The price of automotive diesel fuel in the Czech Republic rose by 14.3% in August compared with July of this year, Czech News Agency (CTK) reported.

The increase in diesel prices in the country last month compared with July was the highest among European Union member states. The EU average was 8.3%.

Automotive diesel fuel is sold at Czech filling stations for an average of 49.13 korunas (2.1 euros) per liter. In an effort to curb rising gasoline and diesel prices, the Czech government has capped retailers’ margins starting October 1 and reduced the excise tax on a liter of diesel by 2.35 korunas (around 0.09 euros). The tax will amount to 8.011 korunas (0.32 euros) per liter, down from the current 9.95 korunas (0.41 euros).
