MOSCOW, August 24. /TASS/. Steel production in Russia increased by 3.3% in July 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, reaching 5.7 mln metric tons, according to a report by the World Steel Association (WSA).

According to the association’s report, China produced 76.9 mln metric tons of steel in July, down 3.6% from July 2025, while India produced 14.4 mln metric tons, up 1.9%. Steel production in Japan increased by 0.4% in July to 6.9 mln metric tons, while production in the United States rose by 4.4% to 7.4 mln metric tons.

Steel production by Russia and other CIS countries, as well as Ukraine, amounted to 6.7 mln metric tons in July 2026, up 2.2% from a year earlier.

Countries in Asia and Oceania produced 109.4 mln metric tons of steel in July, down 1.2%. EU countries produced 10.5 mln metric tons of steel, up 3.8% from a year earlier.

Steel production in North America increased by 4.9% in July to 9.6 mln metric tons. South American countries produced 3.6 mln metric tons of steel during the reporting period, up 2.8%. Middle Eastern countries produced 3.8 mln metric tons of steel, down 13.4% from the same period a year earlier.

Overall, global steel production amounted to 149.2 mln metric tons in July 2026, down 0.3% from a year earlier, according to the association’s report.

The World Steel Association is one of the world’s largest industry associations. Its member companies account for around 85% of global steel production.
