MOSCOW, August 11. /TASS/. Moscow plans to collect scientific information accumulated in Russia and the Soviet Union and use it to train domestic national artificial intelligence models, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said at a meeting of the Presidential Council for Science and Education in Novosibirsk.

"We have set ourselves the goal of collecting all the scientific information that we have," Chernyshenko said.

The deputy prime minister recalled that the Soviet Union had a State System of Scientific and Technical Information. By 1980, it contained more than two billion items of scientific information. "This is a vast trove of information that remains inaccessible to any AI models," he noted.

As of August 10, the holdings being digitized were confirmed to contain 483 million items of scientific and technical information, Chernyshenko said. Russia is also implementing a federal project to develop scientific and technical libraries.

He called for support for updating regulations governing the State System of Scientific and Technical Information to enable the collection of accumulated data and its use in training Russia’s sovereign national models.

The GosTech platform has also compiled data on scientific research and development dating back to 1998, he said. "We will now train our sovereign national models on this data. This will give a huge advantage to our scientists, who will work with these models," Chernyshenko said.

In his opinion, using the accumulated body of scientific and technical information could significantly expand the use of artificial intelligence in research.
