Number of applications for registration of Russian software up more than 20%

Software accounts for 19,700 applications, while 3,000 applications were filed for the protection of databases

MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. Domestic developers filed over 22,800 applications with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) to register computer programs, databases, and integrated circuit topographies in the first half of 2026, which is 21.3% higher than in the same period last year, according to data provided to TASS by Rospatent’s press service.

Of this total, software accounts for 19,700 applications, another 3,000 applications were filed for the protection of databases, and the remaining 140 applications were filed for the protection of integrated circuit topographies.

"Russian programmers are actively filling niches left vacant by developers from unfriendly countries exiting the market and are investing more heavily in their own projects. For instance, domestic BIM systems are being created, and the development of AI-powered software is gaining momentum, with these programs being utilized across all sectors of industry and science," head of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property Yury Zubov said.
