YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, July 3. /TASS/. The Drone ID technology developed by GLONASS will enhance the safety of drone operations in Sakhalin, Governor of the region Valery Limarenko said at the plenary session of the Wings of Sakhalin drone forum.

Since March of this year, connecting to the unified identification system for unmanned systems based on ERA-GLONASS became mandatory. The Sakhalin Region is the first one in Russia where the system has begun to be implemented.

" The latest domestic developments of GLONASS will be presented at the forum, according to the tradition. In particular, the Drone ID technology. It allows for the identification of drones at a great distance even in conditions of no communication. This significantly enhances the safety of using drones for the region's economy," Limarenko said.

The Drone ID technology enables the identification of drones using mobile phones. In the future, there are also plans to implement a "red button" function, which would allow for controlling drones in designated areas during emergencies, in particular to notify operators of the need to leave the area.
