Russia restricts shipments from Ecuadorian banana exporter — watchdog
Rosselkhoznadzor has been forced to impose restrictive measures on banana imports from an Ecuadorian exporter due to the continued detection of quarantine pests, Sergey Dankvert said
SIRIUS, May 22. /TASS/. Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) has been forced to impose restrictive measures on banana imports from an Ecuadorian exporter due to the continued detection of quarantine pests, head of the watchdog Sergey Dankvert told reporters on the sidelines of the All-Russian Grain Forum.
"We have been discussing banana shipments with our Ecuadorian colleagues for a long time. We are asking them to vet their producers and suppliers, as we cannot monitor 2,000 different entities. The guarantees they provide do not match the products we receive. Therefore, after working on this for a long time, we are now forced to take action," Dankvert said.
Effective May 20, Rosselkhoznadzor imposed temporary restrictions on banana imports from one Ecuadorian exporter. The decision follows the systematic detection of organisms subject to quarantine within the Eurasian Economic Union in shipments arriving from Ecuador.
