China increases oil, gas production by 1.3%, 2.7% in January-April

BEIJING, May 18. /TASS/. China’s oil and gas production rose year-on-year by 1.3% and 2.7%, respectively, in January-April 2026, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China.
According to the report, Chinese oil and gas companies produced 72.74 mln tons of crude oil and 90 bln cubic meters of gas in the reporting period. Average daily oil production stood at 598,000 tons last month, while gas output reached 730 mln cubic meters, according to official calculations.
The volume of oil refining in the country over the four months amounted to 238.95 mln tons, according to the statistics service. This is half a percent lower than in the same period in 2025.
Russia is China’s leading energy supplier. In 2025, China purchased 100.72 mln tons of oil (a 7.1% decrease) and 9.79 mln tons of liquefied natural gas (an 18.2% increase) from Russia. Supplies via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline grew by around 25%, reaching 38.8 bln cubic meters.
