NEW YORK, April 29. /TASS/. American billionaire Elon Musk stated in court during his lawsuit against OpenAI that artificial intelligence (AI) could pose an existential threat similar to the scenario in the movie The Terminator (1984).

"We don’t want to have a ‘Terminator’ outcome. We want to be in a Gene Roddenberry outcome, like Star Trek. Not so much a James Cameron movie like Terminator," Fortune magazine quotes him as saying.

Musk noted that in 2015 he discussed with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman ways to protect AI 'from the bad guys.' According to the billionaire, concerns intensified during a meeting with Google co-founder Larry Page, who criticized Musk for prioritizing humans over future digital life forms.

Musk and Altman, together with Ilya Sutskever, Greg Brockman, and others, founded OpenAI in December 2015. Musk was a board member but resigned in 2018. In spring 2023, he founded an AI startup called xAI. In March 2024, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Altman over alleged commercialization of the company. The billionaire claims that OpenAI’s profit-driven focus, supported by Microsoft, violates the 2015 co-founder agreement he signed.
