Russian Energy Ministry eyeing construction of new power plant in Far East
The energy system of the Far East has three zones of energy deficit forecast by 2031, Sergey Tsivilyov said
KAZAN, April 3. /TASS/. The Russian Energy Ministry is considering an option of building a new power plant in the Far East to cover the prospective electricity demand there, Minister Sergey Tsivilyov said at the Energoprom-2026 forum.
The energy system of the Far East has three zones of energy deficit forecast by 2031, the minister said. These are the central part of Yakutia, the southern part of the Primorsky Region, and a portion of the energy system in the Khabarovsk Region.
"Decisions were made at the current stage to ensure extension of operation of 459 MW of existing generating facilities, construction of 35.5 MW of new generating capacity, and construction of power grid facilities," the minister noted.
"We are currently exploring an optimal solution that will close the issue of covering looking-forward demand for electric power in Khabarovsk and the Primorsky Region. In particular, we are considering an option of building a new power generating facility and fuel provision for it," Tsivilyov added.
