Sanya Airport in Hainan services record 21.8 million passengers in 2025

Flight numbers saw a 7% increase from 2024

BEIJING, December 21. /TASS/. This year, overall passenger throughput at Phoenix International Airport in the resort city of Sanya in China’s southernmost province of Hainan has increased 5.8% to a record 21.8 million, China’s CCTV reported.

According to the TV report, over the same period, international passenger throughout at Sanya Phoenix International Airport has grown 46.6% to 895,000. In 2025, the number of flights operated by the airport has risen by 7% from 2024 to exceed 133,500. Over the past 12 months, the airport also processed 113,000 metric tons of cargo (a 16.3% increase).

The positive dynamics, CCTV said, once again show the attractiveness of the Hainan Free Trade Port. Sanya Airport is considered a major stop on the so-called Air Silk Road which has been constantly expanding its reach.

Sanya Airport is among China’s leading air hubs. In 2019, it was acknowledged as Asia’s best airfield operating civilian flights by Airports Council International (ACI). Its passenger throughput amounts to between 15 million and 25 million per annum. At present, it operates 41 flights.
