Russian Geographical Society plans traveling to Arctic, Northern Sea Route, CIS countries
During an expedition, dedicated to the 200th birthday of traveler and researcher Pyotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, the Russian Geographical Society will work in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan
MOSCOW, August 19. /TASS/. The Russian Geographical Society (RGS) plans a number of major expeditions for 2026, including an environmental and research mission to the Arctic, as well as research in areas of the country's key transport lines - the Northern Sea Route (NSR), the Trans-Siberian (Transsib) and Baikal-Amur (BAM) Railways, and on big rivers, the organization's First Deputy Executive Director Ilya Gurov said in an interview with TASS.
"We are planning an environmental and research mission to the Arctic, as well as in areas of the country's key transport lines - NSR, Transsib/BAM, and to study rivers," he said.
During an expedition, dedicated to the 200th birthday of traveler and researcher Pyotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, the Russian Geographical Society will work in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
"This year, our focus has been on Kyrgyzstan, and next year we plan to work in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan during the expedition to mark the 200th anniversary of Pyotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky," he added.
